“A forum for dancers to share their passion”

IMPULSE Founders, '04

IMPULSE Dance Company was founded on February 12, 2004 by Nefertiti Jaquez and Rishi Sanyal, and has consisted of students from both Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design.

IMPULSE initially didn't specialize in any particular dance style; however, as the years have progressed, our company has recognized Hip Hop as our focus. We relish the opportunity to infuse our choreography with the diversity of styles in which our members excel; thus, we are never limited to Hip Hop and take pride in our versatility. We welcome those of all experience levels who share a common passion for dance.

The members of IMPULSE work as a family, team, and united dance company for the sole purpose of accomplishing the following goals:

  1. Through the depth and power of dance we strive to educate, instruct, and convey the beauty of all varied dances.

  2. Through our cultural and artistic differences, and our unpredictable forms of dance, we hope to learn from one another and create an eclectic, creative, and overall SUPPORTIVE social environment.

  3. Through our talents and acquired proficiency in these dances, we hope to organize communal-based dance productions to share with the community.

Our underlying principles include instruction, training, discipline,  enthusiasm, and self-discovery through dance. IMPULSE strives to uphold the idea that the Brown dance community will continue to progress and evolve.
